The Regulations of the Master’s Programme in “Breast Diseases” provide for the awarding of merit-based and work-based scholarships, as well as honorary awards for academic excellence. Decisions regarding the awarding of scholarships are made by the Assembly of the School of Medicine, following a recommendation from the Coordinating Committee.
Merit-Based Scholarships
Up to two (2) merit-based scholarships may be awarded during each cycle of studies. Scholarships are granted based on academic performance in the First Semester and exempt recipients from paying tuition fees for the final semester of taught courses.
Eligibility Requirements:
Completion of half of the standard duration of the Programme.
Applicants must not hold a paid position in the public or private sector or receive a scholarship from another organisation during the same period.
Selection Criteria:
A minimum average course grade of eight (8).
Successful completion of all courses in accordance with the curriculum.
Individual and family income.
In the event of identical academic grades and income levels, the scholarship is awarded by drawing lots. If a recipient declines the scholarship, it is offered to the next eligible applicant in the ranking.
Important – Required Supporting Documents
Following the relevant call for applications, interested students must submit an application to the Secretariat of the School of Medicine, accompanied by the following documents:
Official academic transcript.
A solemn declaration (issued through gov.gr) confirming that they do not hold a paid position in the public or private sector and are not receiving a scholarship from another organisation during the same period.
A recent income tax assessment notice (individual and family).
Work-Based Scholarships
The Assembly of the School of Medicine may award up to three (3) work-based scholarships, depending on the number of students admitted and the Programme’s financial resources.
Scholarship recipients undertake supplementary teaching duties in undergraduate programmes. These duties may include assisting academic staff with teaching, supporting undergraduate students during practical training, conducting tutorials and laboratory sessions, invigilating examinations and marking assignments.
The scholarship may cover part or all of the tuition fees and is calculated based on the actual hours worked. The hourly rate is determined at the beginning of each academic year by a decision of the Assembly and communicated to students.
The same eligibility requirements, selection criteria and application procedures applicable to merit-based scholarships also apply to work-based scholarships.
Awards for Academic Excellence
An award for academic excellence may be presented to the three highest-performing students in each cohort following the completion of the First and Second Semester courses.
The award is honorary and carries no financial benefit. It is signed by the Director of the Master’s Programme and the President of the School of Medicine.
Eligibility Requirements:
A minimum average grade of eight (8) across the courses of the First and Second Semesters.
Successful completion of all courses during the regular February (First Semester) and June (Second Semester) examination periods of the standard academic years.
Following the submission of the June examination results, the Coordinating Committee ranks eligible students according to their average grades and submits a recommendation to the Assembly of the School of Medicine regarding the awarding of prizes.
Calculation of the Grade Point Average
For all categories of scholarships and academic excellence awards, the average grade is weighted according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
The grade obtained in each course is multiplied by the number of ECTS credits assigned to that course. The sum of these products is then divided by the total number of ECTS credits for the relevant semester or semesters.
Weighted Average Grade = Σ (Course Grade × Course ECTS Credits) ÷ Σ ECTS Credits for the Relevant Semester(s)
