Learning Outcomes
The Programme’s learning outcomes correspond to Level 7 of the Hellenic and European Qualifications Frameworks. They describe the knowledge, skills and competences acquired by graduates upon successful completion of their studies.
Achievement of the learning outcomes is linked to specific educational activities and assessment methods. Knowledge is developed primarily through lectures and assessed in the first- and second-semester examinations. Skills and competences are cultivated during practical training in outpatient clinics, operating theatres and multidisciplinary tumour boards, with each student’s activities recorded in the Practical Training Logbook. Teaching is further supported by workshops, conferences and continuing professional education courses included in the curriculum. The preparation and defence of the Master’s dissertation before a three-member examination committee complete the learning process, enabling students to demonstrate their ability to design, conduct and present a scientific study.
Upon completion of the Programme, graduates will be able to:
Knowledge
- LO1. explain the anatomy, physiology and biology of the breast; the genetics of breast cancer and hereditary cancer syndromes; the mechanisms of carcinogenesis; and the epidemiology and risk factors of benign and malignant breast diseases;
- LO2. describe current methods of screening and imaging—including applications of artificial intelligence—as well as cytological and histological diagnosis and the criteria governing their selection; and explain breast cancer staging, prognostic biomarkers and molecular subtypes;
- LO3. explain the management of benign and premalignant lesions and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of surgical treatment of the breast and axilla, oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction, as well as adjuvant therapies (radiotherapy, chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, targeted therapies and immunotherapy) and the management of their complications, in accordance with current national and international guidelines;
Skills
- LO4. integrate medical history, clinical examination, imaging and histopathology findings in real clinical cases and, within the scope of their professional role, contribute to evidence-based diagnostic and treatment planning;
- LO5. identify the specific needs of special patient groups (individuals at high risk, young women and fertility considerations, pregnant women, older patients and men) and adapt their approach accordingly;
- LO6. search for and critically appraise the scientific literature; design and conduct a research study or review using fundamental principles of biostatistics; and write and present the findings in accordance with research ethics and personal data protection requirements;
Competences
- LO7. work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, present clinical cases and communicate evidence-based recommendations to colleagues from other specialties at multidisciplinary tumour boards;
- LO8. incorporate psychological support, pain management, quality-of-life considerations and long-term follow-up into patient care, demonstrating professional and ethical responsibility;
- LO9. work autonomously, exercise critical thinking and self-reflection, and continually update their knowledge in line with developments in the field.
