Educational Process
The Master's Programme in "Breast Diseases" combines theoretical teaching with the practical application of knowledge in clinical settings and research activities. Students do not simply attend lectures; they actively participate in discussions and clinical activities that prepare them for everyday professional practice as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Teaching Methods
- Lectures and Seminars: Courses are delivered by faculty members, visiting professors and specialist academics, supported by audiovisual materials.
- Clinical Practice: Theoretical knowledge is applied in outpatient clinics and treatment units.
- Research Methodology and Master's Thesis: Research methodology seminars help prepare students for the completion of their Master's Thesis. The thesis may take the form of a literature review or a research study, involving the relevant requirements for searching and critically evaluating scientific literature or collecting and analysing data.
- Scientific Events: Programme-organised scientific meetings and events complement the teaching activities.
In-Person Teaching
All practical and clinical training activities are conducted in person:
- Observation of screening, imaging and diagnostic methods for breast diseases.
- Attendance at Outpatient Clinics.
- Observation of Breast Surgical Procedures.
- Participation in Multidisciplinary Tumour Boards and Specialised Breast Seminars.
In addition, 30% of theoretical teaching is delivered in person.
Distance Learning
Many students enrolled in the Programme are working healthcare professionals. To facilitate their participation, theoretical classes are held on Saturdays, in accordance with the timetable, with 70% of theoretical teaching delivered through synchronous distance learning via NKUA's Webex platform. Teaching takes place in real time, allowing students to interact directly with lecturers. An invitation to each online class is sent to every student's institutional email address (@uoa.gr).
The NKUA Digital Governance Unit is responsible for supporting distance learning and ensuring the protection of personal data.
Digital Learning Environment
Each cohort has a dedicated shared space on NKUA's Electronic Classroom (e-class) platform, where course materials are organised and announcements are published. Educational materials include lecture notes and presentations, while recorded lectures are uploaded only in compliance with personal data protection legislation. The platform is also accessible to people with disabilities and is used to facilitate communication between students and teaching staff.
Students also have free access to NKUA's electronic databases and scientific journals, as well as the services provided by the Network Operations and Management Centre (NOC), including institutional email accounts, wireless network access and videoconferencing services.
Language of Instruction
Teaching is conducted in Greek. Lectures delivered by international guest speakers are conducted in English. The Master's Thesis may be written in either Greek or English.
