Study Regulations

The Master’s Programme in “Breast Diseases” is a full-time programme. The following regulations are established in the Programme Regulations and apply to all students, from enrolment through to the completion of their studies.

Duration of Studies

Studies commence in the autumn semester of each academic year and lead to the award of ninety (90) ECTS credits, including the Master’s Thesis.

Duration

Time Period

Standard Duration, Including Preparation of the Master’s Thesis3 Academic Semesters
Maximum Extension, Granted Only Once2 Academic Semesters
Maximum Duration of Studies5 Academic Semesters

An extension may be granted for demonstrably serious reasons, following a duly justified application submitted by the student. The Coordinating Committee examines each application individually and submits its recommendation to the Assembly of the School of Medicine, which makes the final decision.

Academic Obligations

During their studies, students are required to:

  1. Attend courses and seminars and successfully complete the relevant assessments.

  2. Complete their clinical training in outpatient clinics and treatment units relevant to the Programme’s field of study.

  3. Submit assigned coursework within the specified deadlines and attend the required examinations.

  4. Prepare and complete a Master’s Thesis.

  5. Pay tuition fees at the beginning of each semester.

Students are also encouraged to participate in scientific activities relevant to the Programme’s subject area, such as literature review discussions, conferences, scientific meetings and lectures organised by the Programme.

Attendance

Attendance at courses and all educational activities is compulsory. To be eligible to sit the examination for a particular course, students must have attended at least 80% of its scheduled teaching hours. Otherwise, they are required to attend the course again during the following academic year.

Important

If a student’s absences exceed 20% of the total scheduled teaching hours across all courses, the Coordinating Committee will consider the possibility of their removal from the Programme and submit its recommendation to the Assembly of the School of Medicine.

Suspension of Studies

Students who have not exceeded the maximum permitted duration of studies may apply for a suspension of studies for up to two (2) consecutive semesters on serious grounds, such as military service, illness, maternity or residence abroad.

Applications must be submitted to the Assembly of the School of Medicine, accompanied by supporting documentation issued by the relevant public authorities or organisations confirming the grounds for suspension.

During the suspension period, student status is temporarily suspended, and participation in any educational activity is not permitted. Semesters spent on suspension are not counted towards the maximum permitted duration of studies.

Students must re-register at least two weeks before the end of their suspension period in order to resume their studies with all the rights and obligations of an active student.

Students granted a two-semester suspension may return to the Programme earlier. The relevant application must be submitted no later than two weeks before the beginning of the second semester of the suspension period.

Concurrent Enrolment

Concurrent enrolment in the Programme and an undergraduate programme or another Master’s Programme is permitted, whether within the same or a different Department or Higher Education Institution.

Students may also enrol in Master’s Programmes offered by other institutions in Greece or abroad within the framework of educational or research cooperation programmes.

Removal from the Programme

The Assembly of the School of Medicine, following a recommendation from the Coordinating Committee, may decide to remove a student from the Programme if the student:

  1. Exceeds the maximum permitted number of absences.

  2. Fails one or more courses and does not successfully complete the Programme in accordance with its Regulations.

  3. Exceeds the maximum permitted duration of studies.

  4. Has violated disciplinary regulations, as determined by the competent disciplinary bodies.

  5. Fails to pay the required tuition fees.

  6. Requests withdrawal from the Programme.

Students who are removed from the Programme may request an official certificate confirming the courses they have successfully completed.

The rights and benefits available to postgraduate students are outlined on the Student Rights & Obligations page, while the services provided by NKUA are presented on the Student Support Services page.
