Mission & Vision

Mission

The mission of the Programme is to provide healthcare professionals with high-level scientific education in breast diseases. The curriculum encompasses epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, conventional and targeted treatment, supportive interventions and research.

Breast diseases are among the most common conditions affecting women. Their prevention, diagnosis and treatment—particularly in breast cancer—require close collaboration among multiple specialties. The Programme therefore equips students with knowledge contributed by all the disciplines required for contemporary, comprehensive patient care, in accordance with national and international guidelines.

The Programme has a threefold focus:

  • Educational: To train early-career physicians and scientists from related disciplines in the field.

  • Scientific: To deepen specialist knowledge and contribute to the generation of new knowledge.

  • Professional: To enhance graduates’ career development through knowledge and skills applicable to clinical practice.

Vision

The Programme aspires to become a benchmark for the advanced education of physicians and other healthcare scientists in breast diseases. It aims to foster a strong research culture, with student projects leading to conference presentations and publications and laying the groundwork for further studies.

It also seeks to provide education and experience in Greece comparable to those that scientists would otherwise pursue abroad, encouraging highly qualified scientific professionals to remain in the country and contribute to patient care and society.

Strategic Objectives

The Programme’s strategy is aligned with NKUA’s institutional strategy and is organised around five priorities:

  • Continuous enhancement of core academic activities.

  • Advancement of research, innovation and excellence.

  • Stronger links with society and the labour market.

  • Expansion of internationalisation and external engagement.

  • Enhancement of the university environment.
